I asked a group of leading General Managers one simple question: “What are your three priorities for 2026?” Despite representing different brands and markets, their answers were remarkably aligned. From New York to Dubai, Vancouver to Portugal, these leaders highlighted the fundamentals that will define success in luxury hospitality next year. The GMs who shared their thinking include:

  • Patricio Carregha Flood - Waldorf Astoria New York

  • Paul Sykes - Banyan Tree Dubai / Banyan Group

  • Kostas Christopoulos, MBA - OPUS Vancouver

  • Oriol Juvé de Yebra - formerly Six Senses Douro Valley, now COO at Sublime Hotels

  • Sean P. Murphy - The Bower Coronado

1. People and Leadership Are Core

All GMs agreed: culture is no longer a “soft” topic. Leadership, emotional intelligence, empowerment, and talent retention are now core performance drivers. Patricio Carregha Flood stressed empowering teams and building confidence through training, while Sean P. Murphy emphasized that human capital remains the most valuable asset. The future GM is visible, engaged, and deeply invested in their teams.

  1. Meaningful Experiences Over Generic Luxury

Guests now seek experiences that resonate emotionally rather than just luxury accommodations. Paul Sykes and Kostas Christopoulos highlighted authenticity, sense of place, and alignment with values as key differentiators. Oriol Juvé de Yebra added that design alone is no longer enough; purposeful, human-centered experiences make stays memorable.

3. Technology as an Enabler, Not a Replacement

AI and data are widely embraced, but intentionally. Sean P. Murphy and Kostas Christopoulos emphasized that technology should enhance the human experience, streamline operations, and free teams to focus on service, rather than replace personal engagement. Thoughtful tech adoption is about smarter, not less human, hospitality.

  1. Purpose, Presence, and the Future of Luxury

The overarching takeaway from these leaders is clear: 2026 is about returning to fundamentals - People. Purpose. Presence. From meaningful guest experiences to empowered teams and intentional use of technology, purpose-driven hospitality will define the next era of luxury, ensuring that every stay leaves a lasting impression.

The priorities shared by leading General Managers for 2026 show that the future of luxury hospitality isn’t just about beautiful design or advanced technology - it’s about people, purpose, and presence. From empowering teams and creating meaningful guest experiences to using technology thoughtfully, these insights reveal what truly defines exceptional hospitality today.
